EMC Publishing has a well-established relationship with the University of Minnesota. The intersection of their research-based products with EMC’s proven history of successful K-12 education materials has created a strong partnership for years to come.
LT Media Lab
In 2012 EMC entered into partnership with LT Media Lab at the University of Minnesota to provide quality digital educational products to our customers. LT Media Lab has created two unique digital products, Avenue™ and Flipgrid™, designed to enhance teacher effectiveness and drive student language learning.
Avenue™ is an innovative e-assessment platform for building custom language tasks to capture, evaluate, archive, and visualize progress of video-based learner performances. Backed by years of research, Avenue™ has been shown to be an effective tool for increasing student proficiency in language learning. Flipgrid™ is a collaboration tool employing a video wall, allowing students to share ideas and opinions with their teachers and classmates in a social media-type setting. LT Media Lab will also be integrally involved in EMC’s larger long-term digital products strategy.
Center for Applied Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA)
In 2012 EMC entered into a strategic partnership with CARLA at the University of Minnesota to distribute a battery of proficiency tests developed over many years by experts in assessment and pedagogy. These assessments are being branded as ELPAC (EMC’s Language Proficiency Assessments by CARLA) and are aligned with the American Council on Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines. These assessments are a collection of instruments designed to measure learners' proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in French, German, and Spanish, at two intermediate levels on the ACTFL scale. They have been used for the purpose of certifying that students have met the designated levels of language proficiency and also to facilitate the process of articulating expectations of student performance at the end of secondary studies and the beginning of post-secondary studies. CARLA continues to provide valuable support for these research-based assessments.
EMC also has a number of international partners with whom they co-publish and distribute world language materials.
EMC has a strong partnership with CLE International, a world-renowned publishing company based in Paris, France. CLE produces outstanding materials for students learning French all over the world. EMC and CLE are currently co-developing the dynamic brand new four-level French program T’es branché?, which is aligned perfectly with the new Advanced Placement curriculum recently announced by the College Board and is also correlated to the Common Core State Standards. The collaboration with CLE ensures authentic language and culture in the T’es branché? series.
