Meg Murry's father disappeared while working on a top-secret government project involving something called a "tesseract." The family hasn't heard from him in nearly a year. Thirteen-year-old Meg feels like an outcast and a failure in school and desperately misses her father. The only person who understands her is her little brother Charles Wallace, who has the eerie ability to read her thoughts. Everything changes one dark and stormy night, when an unearthly stranger arrives at the Murrys' kitchen door, claiming she has been “blown off course.” Soon Meg, Charles, and their new friend Calvin are off on an incredible journey across space and time.
Author Bio
Madeleine L'Engle has written over sixty books, including plays, essays, and poems for both children and adults. However, she is best known for her science fantasy books for young adults—the first of which is the Newbery Award-winning classic A Wrinkle in Time. This novel, along with A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and Many Waters, make up L'Engle's Time Quartet. L'Engle divides her time between an apartment in New York City and an eighteenth-century farmhouse outside of Goshen, Connecticut. Now in her eighties, L'Engle continues to write, and she continues to wonder about the mysteries of the universe.
