Mica High had always been average—average and normal, like any other high school. That was, until the new student arrived. Stargirl Caraway. And Leo Borlock knew things would never be the same again.

Although her name is unusual, other things about Stargirl are even more unusual. At first everyone stares. They don't know how to react. They can't even decide if she is for real. Then, gradually, Stargirl's antics begin to captivate the other students. They even follow her lead, cheering wildly at football games, singing and dancing in the halls, and making their own new fashion statements. Mica High is full of new energy.

But after some of Stargirl's actions begin to annoy and even anger people, her popularity wanes. In fact, she is shunned. Leo, who has begun to fall for Stargirl, panics. Why can't she be like everyone else? Why can't she just be normal? Jerry Spinelli's novel tells a powerful tale about teens, first love, conformity, and generosity. This complete study edition of Stargirl contains information about the author and about literary techniques as well as questions, writing ideas, projects, and a glossary. Related readings are included to give you new perspectives.
