Together, they can overcome any challenge, hunting even the mysterious “ghost coon,” the most wily raccoon in the Ozarks. But what will they do when they face their gravest danger yet? Readers of all ages have enjoyed this classic tale of adventure and a very special relationship between a boy and his dogs. This complete study edition of Rawls's Where the Red Fern Grows includes information about life in the Ozark Mountains during the early twentieth century, questions, writing ideas, and projects—everything you need to immerse yourself in this tale of love and loss.
Author Bio
Wilson Rawls grew up on a small farm in rural Oklahoma. Rawls overcame poverty and a lack of formal education to fulfill his dream of becoming a writer. For inspiration for his first novel, Where the Red Fern Grows, he drew upon his own childhood to vividly capture life in the hunting country of the Ozark Mountains. His two novels, Where the Red Fern Grows and Summer of the Monkeys, have been favorites with children, young adults, and teachers for decades.
