Associate Developmental Editor: Digital and Print - St. Paul, MN

Job Summary

The Associate Developmental Editor: Digital and Print helps to create accurate and engaging content for Paradigm Education Solutions in the areas of health careers, computer concepts and applications, and career readiness. The Associate Developmental Editor works closely with authors, reviewers, vendors, and staff in the Editorial, Technology, Production, and Marketing departments to develop exceptional instructional materials—including print textbooks, ebooks, print and digital training and assessment resources for students, and print and digital course management resources for instructors. The Associate Developmental Editor is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with authors and contributors, collaborating with all members of the project team to ensure the accuracy and excellence of the product, reporting project status clearly and accurately, hiring reviewers and vendors, and advocating for all aspects of assigned programs.

This position is located in St. Paul, MN. Relocation assistance will not be provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Successfully coordinate assigned projects from concept to finished product, including research and development, planning, scheduling and budgeting, scope and resource management, product delivery and maintenance, and project wrap-up
  • Follow best practices in editorial development—including analyzing manuscript, directing revisions, and providing substantive and content edits—to ensure that content meets identified pedagogical goals and market needs and is appropriate for the target audience, accurate, consistent with house and program style, and grammatically correct
  • Draft plans, budgets, and schedules that meet project goals and objectives, and then maintain accurate tracking and reporting tools for approved plans, budgets, and schedules
  • Establish and maintain clear communication and regular status reports to manage the expectations of project stakeholders (including team members and managers)
  • Follow best practices in project management to ensure that project teams—including authors, vendors, and staff members from across departments and functional areas—meet or exceed project goals and objectives
  • Hire and supervise talented reviewers, writers, editors, testers, programmers, and other vendors, including negotiating equitable work-for-hire contracts, creating and maintaining accurate schedules and budgets; providing clear guidelines, templates, and samples; reviewing submissions to ensure adherence to guidelines and to the highest quality standards; offering prompt and supportive feedback and suggestions; and resolving issues effectively and efficiently
  • Follow best practices and department guidelines to track and manage print and digital files throughout the development and production process
  • Organize and coordinate photo, art, and permissions research; acquire high-quality images and other permissionable items that meet project specifications; create art manuscripts; and create and maintain accurate and complete logs and files
  • Collaborate with the Technology department to develop new and innovative ways to deliver content digitally and to support the company’s vision of expanding and enriching digital and online programs and components
  • Collaborate with the Marketing department to develop highly effective marketing collateral, including commercials, websites, blogs, samples, brochures, catalogs, and training materials
  • Collaborate with the Marketing department to conduct detailed reviews of company and competitor products, and collaborate with Editorial and Marketing managers to interpret and apply results
  • Respond promptly and positively to customer questions and concerns
  • Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, writing, education, communications, instructional design, or journalism, preferably with coursework in digital media
  • Minimum two- to three-years’ experience editing, writing, or developing manuscripts for digital or print products

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with digital training and delivery tools, including online courses, learning management systems, and testing
  • Experience incorporating digital delivery of educational content or training materials with print delivery of same
  • Experience teaching, preferably at the post-secondary level
  • Experience with health-related content
  • Working knowledge of electronic delivery options for educational materials and current digital formats, including Learning Management Systems (Blackboard, D2L, Canvas, Moodle)
  • Familiarity with InDesign, HTML5, and basic web development and design principles
